Greeting by Dr. Scharrer

Dear Colleagues,

the 36th International Congress of German Ophthalmic Surgery (DOC) will be held in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 20th to 22nd 2024. Leading experts will present innovations and advancements and discuss the gold standards of ophthalmic surgery with the auditorium. Practical ophthalmic surgery is given a lot of emphasis in wetlabs and courses, ensuring comprehensive, hands-on training and continued education.

In addition to Master Class courses, which provide an excellent overview in condensed form of a sub-field of ophthalmology / ophthalmic surgery, the surgical courses are also continuously expanded. The aim of the surgical courses is to provide the participants with a clear surgical procedure, divided into individual steps, supplemented by explanations of the indication and postoperative follow-up.

In pro & con sessions, speakers defend their point of view and discuss it with the auditorium.

Video Live Surgery will also take center stage in 2024. This time, Video Live Surgery comes from Singapore, the Singapore National Eye Centre. Video Live Surgery provides detailed insights into modern surgical techniques in difficult initial situations.

An important pillar of the DOC is controversial discussion. The task of the chairs of a meeting is to actively organize the controversial discussion, i.e., to discuss alternative views and dissenting opinions. The subjective, personal opinions of the chairpersons are also of interest to the auditorium.

New symposia in 2024 are: “Sustainability in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery – what should be done” and “AI based solutions in Ophthalmology”. The occupational policy symposium focuses on the question “Do we need more or less economics in healthcare in Germany?” In addition to the seminar series Management in Clinic and Practice, the symposia on anesthesia in ophthalmology, contact lenses, strabology and elective services (IGeLSymposium) will also play an important role. The seminar for the ophthalmologist’s practice is of special importance to all colleagues. In addition to the program for physicians, DOC offers a comprehensive, first-class program for ophthalmic clinical and practice assistants (OAP program).

For our international guests we offer simultaneous translation on all 3 days in room “Tokio”.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 36th DOC, June 20th to 22nd 2024, in Nuremberg, Germany!

Yours,
Dr. med. A. Scharrer
